Athletes
have to deal with special challenges when it comes to their vision. They confront ultraviolet rays, glare and aberrations all of which can affect their performance. Although there are sunglasses designed to address these different concerns, many people who play sports often decline to wear them. Glasses can be cumbersome. They can fog, be jarred loose, or simply be too heavy. Now there is another product for consideration in the form of the Nike Maxsight sport-tinted contact lens. Developed in partnership with Nike by Bausch and Lomb, one of the leading contact lens manufacturers, the lens represents a tremendous breakthrough in contact lens design. The lenses are meant to give an edge to the serious athlete or the weekend warrior, who occasionally enjoys the rush of competition. White light consists of a variety of colors. The blue part of the spectrum, however, can cause distortions called chromatic aberration. These distortions affect the efficiency of the visual system particularly in brightly lit conditions, as is often the case in many outdoor sports. The lens blocks blue light and by doing so, improves contrast and essentially helps the wearer see better. Colors Available The
amber lens is
designed to help those who play fast-moving sports such as baseball,
soccer, tennis and football. When wearing the lens, a player can
efficiently distinguish the ball from the background. It gives them the
ability to more effectively track fast moving objects. The
greygreen lens, on the other hand, is
designed to help with sports such
as golf and running. When using the
lens, a golfer can better read the greens and be more comfortable
playing in brightly lit environments where glare is a concern. Feedback from patients has been very positive. Anyone who plays sports will certainly appreciate the benefits from this new technology and hopefully gain that extra edge they’ve been looking for. |
